In a small Romanian town on the 16th anniversary of the revolution, the arrogant owner of a shoddy local TV station is frantically searching for guests to take part in a talk show that asks: ‘did the people of this town actively participate in the revolution or not?’ His last minute guests - an elderly loner best known for playing Father Christmas and an alcoholic history teacher - are adamant that their protesting led to the fall of the Communist government. Callers to the programme maintain that they were merely celebrating after the event.
With a second half that unfolds in real time as a hilariously shambolic talk show, this engaging black comedy paints a farcical picture of the controversial revolution, asking not only “did it happen here?” but, more importantly, “what difference did it make?”
